Our bed and breakfast is comfortable and cozy, making a peaceful retreat for your little getaway.

We are located in the Township of Muskoka Lakes, at the edge of the village of Windermere.
There you will find the Windermere House, open seasonally, which boasts fine dining as well as
a pub with a wonderful and fun-loving atmosphere.  In the village you will find a general store,
a well established 18 hole golf course,
tennis courts, public beach, marina and boat launching services.

We are a short drive to the village of Rosseau which has several lovely  little shops,
a beautiful wharf and farmers’ market.
Port Carling is a mere 20 minutes from our place and has
some excellent shopping, and restaurants.
You can enjoy a lazy summer day stretched out on the cool grass while you
watch the boats pass through the locks.
Maybe a hand-dipped cone will complete the picture.
If  you are looking for a bigger town where you could do more,
travel thirty minutes north to Huntsville, or thirty minutes south to Bracebridge. 

Backwoods is located on 60+ acres of forest, running along the Dee River.
Peaceful and serene, you will feel at home here.
We are rather informal and welcome you to enjoy our little piece of heaven.
We do have a well-behaved house cat whose biggest worry is chasing the sun around
so he can stretch out and enjoy yet another sleep drenched in its warmth.

               

 
Although we have no formal trails it is easy to stroll along the river and explore to your hearts content.
Witness the local wildlife in their natural environment.
We've had rabbits, owls, deer, moose and a myriad of squirrels chasing squirrels,
raccoons, beavers and ermine. Bird watching is in full focus all through the summer and winter months.
Take a canoe ride down the river to a portage sight and find your way into Clark's Pond,
which is well-known for pickerel fishing.

Enjoy a campfire in the evening.  

Going for a scenic country walk up Rostrevor Road or into the village of Windermere is always fun.

During the winter months you can cross country ski, or snowshoe. Ice fishing is a popular pastime.
We are comfortably close to snowmobile trails and as always if your book is calling you,
you can just curl up with a cozy blanket and watch the day pass you by.
